About Us
Who is Nexgen Electrical Innovations?
Nexgen Electrical Innovations Ltd is a NICEIC Approved Contractor providing residential, commercial, and industrial electrical services across London and the South East. We specialise in new installations, EV charging, solar PV, periodic inspection, and emergency callouts. Our team of qualified electricians holds current AM2 and 18th Edition (BS 7671) certification.
What does NICEIC Approved Contractor mean?
The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) is the UK's leading electrical contracting industry regulator. NICEIC Approved Contractors are independently assessed — typically annually — to confirm that their work meets the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and relevant British Standards. Choosing a NICEIC contractor gives you assurance that the work is technically competent and backed by the NICEIC Platinum Promise consumer protection scheme.
Which areas do you cover?
Our primary service area is London and the surrounding Home Counties, including Essex, Kent, Surrey, and Hertfordshire. We cover residential and commercial premises throughout Greater London. For large-scale industrial contracts outside this area, please contact us to discuss feasibility — we do take on projects nationally for the right scope of work.
How long have you been in business?
Nexgen Electrical Innovations Ltd has been delivering electrical services since its incorporation. Our team collectively holds decades of hands-on experience across domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors. We are fully insured, VAT registered, and registered with Companies House in England and Wales.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry Employers' Liability £10M, Public Liability £10M, Product Liability £10M, and Pollution Liability £5M. Our NICEIC Approved Contractor status also means our work is backed by the NICEIC Platinum Promise, which provides additional consumer protection if we are unable to remedy a defect.
Our Services
What types of electrical work do you carry out?
We offer a full range of electrical services: new consumer unit (fuse board) upgrades, full and partial rewires, socket and lighting installation, EV charger installation (OZEV-approved), solar PV systems with battery storage, Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR), Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC), emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, data cabling, and 24/7 emergency callouts. We work on residential, commercial, and light-industrial premises.
Do you install EV chargers?
Yes. We are authorised installers of EV charging equipment under the OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) scheme. We install tethered and untethered home charging units, workplace charge points, and public car park infrastructure. All EV charger installations comply with BS 7671 and relevant Product Standards, and we notify the DNO (Distribution Network Operator) where required.
Do you install solar panels and battery storage?
Yes. We design and install solar PV systems for domestic and commercial properties, including battery storage integration. Our engineers are MCS-accredited and all installations meet IET Code of Practice for Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems. We handle the full process — site survey, DNO G98/G99 notification, commissioning, and handover documentation.
Can you carry out an EICR inspection?
Yes. Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR) are one of our core services. We carry out EICR inspections on residential properties, rental properties (where they are a legal requirement under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020), commercial premises, and industrial sites. We issue a formal EICR certificate on completion and can carry out any remedial work identified.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?
Yes. We provide a 24-hour, 7-day emergency electrical service. If you have a total loss of power, a tripping circuit breaker that will not reset, a burning smell from an electrical fitting, or any other electrical emergency, call our emergency line. Response times vary by location and time of day, but we aim to be on site within two hours for properties within our core service area.
Getting a Quote
How do I request a quote?
You can request a quote via the online Quotation Request form on our website, by calling our main office number, or by emailing us directly. We aim to acknowledge all quotation requests within one working day. For standard domestic work, we can often provide a fixed-price quote following a brief telephone conversation and a site visit. For larger or more complex projects, a full site survey is required before we can price accurately.
What information do I need to provide?
To prepare an accurate quote, it helps to know: the type of work required (e.g. consumer unit upgrade, new circuit, EICR); the property type and size; your address and preferred access times; any existing electrical drawings or specifications (for commercial projects); and your preferred start date. The more detail you provide, the more accurate our initial estimate will be — though we always confirm pricing in writing following a site visit.
Are your quotes free?
Site survey visits for standard domestic and small commercial work are provided free of charge. For larger commercial or industrial projects requiring a detailed site assessment and written specification, we may charge a survey fee — this will always be discussed and agreed with you in advance, and it is credited against the final contract value if you proceed with us.
How quickly will I receive a quote?
We aim to respond to all quotation enquiries within one working day. Following a site visit, written quotations are typically issued within two to three working days for domestic work, and five working days for larger commercial projects. If you have an urgent deadline, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
How long is a quote valid for?
Our written quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issue, unless stated otherwise. After 30 days, materials prices and labour rates may have changed, so we ask you to contact us to confirm the price still applies before proceeding. Quotes for projects that will take several months to start may be subject to a materials price review clause.
Pricing & Payment
How do you price your work?
We price on a fixed-price basis wherever possible, so you know exactly what you will pay before work begins. For straightforward jobs (socket additions, consumer unit upgrades, EICR inspections), we can usually give a fixed price over the phone or via email. For more complex or bespoke projects, pricing is confirmed in a written quotation following a site survey. We do not apply hidden charges — any variations to agreed scope are discussed and authorised before additional work proceeds.
Are your prices inclusive of VAT?
All prices quoted are exclusive of VAT unless explicitly stated otherwise. VAT at the current standard rate (20%) will be added to your invoice. Certain types of electrical work on qualifying residential properties may be eligible for the reduced VAT rate — we will advise you if this applies to your project.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfer (BACS/Faster Payments), credit and debit card, and cheque. We do not accept cash for invoiced work. Payment details are shown on each invoice. For ongoing maintenance contracts, we can arrange direct debit.
Do you require a deposit?
For small domestic jobs (typically under £500 + VAT), full payment is due on completion. For larger projects, we typically require a deposit of 25–30% of the contract value upon acceptance of our quotation, with the balance due on practical completion. For projects requiring significant materials procurement in advance, staged payments may be agreed and set out in the contract.
What are your payment terms?
Our standard payment terms are 14 days from the date of invoice for commercial clients, and payment on completion for residential work unless otherwise agreed. Late payment interest may be applied under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 for overdue commercial invoices.
Bookings & Scheduling
How do I book a job?
Once you have accepted our written quotation, we will contact you to arrange a convenient start date. For straightforward domestic jobs, you can request an appointment via the online booking form, by phone, or by email. We will confirm your booking in writing with the scheduled date, approximate duration, and the name of the engineer who will attend.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Lead times vary depending on the type of work and current demand. For standard domestic jobs (socket additions, consumer unit work, EICR), we are typically booked two to three weeks ahead. For larger projects requiring a full survey and materials procurement, four to eight weeks is more typical. Emergency callouts are attended as quickly as possible — usually within two hours for properties in our core area.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a booked appointment at no charge. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice may incur a cancellation charge to cover lost time and any materials already ordered specifically for your job. For large projects, cancellation terms are set out in the contract.
Can I get a same-day appointment?
Same-day appointments for non-emergency work are subject to availability. We do occasionally have cancellation slots — please call us directly to enquire. If your situation is urgent but not an emergency (for example, a fault that is making part of your property unusable), let us know and we will do our best to prioritise you.
How quickly can you respond to an electrical emergency?
Our 24/7 emergency team aims to be on site within two hours for properties within Greater London and our primary service area. Response times for outlying areas may be longer. For any electrical emergency — total loss of power, burning smell, sparking, flooding near electrics — please call our emergency line immediately. Do not attempt to investigate or reset the installation yourself.
During the Work
What should I expect when your engineers arrive?
Our engineers will arrive at the agreed time, introduce themselves, and carry out a brief site induction — confirming what work is being carried out, identifying access requirements, and discussing any areas that need to be kept clear. They will carry identification and will be wearing Nexgen branded workwear. We aim to protect your property throughout and will lay dust sheets in working areas.
Will my power be interrupted during the work?
Most electrical work requires the mains supply to be isolated at some point for safety. For consumer unit work or rewiring, the power will be off for extended periods. For localised work (adding a socket, fitting a light fitting), isolation is typically brief — a matter of minutes for that circuit. We will always discuss the expected disruption period with you in advance so you can make suitable arrangements.
Do you notify Building Control for notifiable work?
Yes. As a NICEIC Approved Contractor, we are authorised to self-certify notifiable electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations without you needing to make a separate application to your Local Authority Building Control. We notify NICEIC, who in turn notify the Local Authority on your behalf. You will receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate as part of your completion documentation.
Do you supply all materials?
Yes, we supply all electrical materials required for the job as part of our quoted price. We source from approved distributors and use components that comply with relevant British Standards. If you have a specific product preference (for example, a particular socket or switch style), let us know at the quotation stage and we will incorporate this into the price.
Will you tidy up after the work?
Yes. We take pride in leaving your property in a clean and tidy condition. Our engineers will remove all electrical waste and packaging, sweep and hoover working areas, and make good any minor making-good required as part of the electrical installation (for example, filling cable channels). We do not carry out decoration, but we will leave the walls ready for you to redecorate.
After the Work
What certificates will I receive?
On completion of notifiable electrical installation work, you will receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) as appropriate, issued in accordance with BS 7671. For consumer unit replacements, new circuits, or full rewires, you will also receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate confirming the work has been notified to and accepted by NICEIC on behalf of your Local Authority.
What is the difference between an EIC and an EICR?
An Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) is issued for new electrical installation work and certifies that the work has been designed, installed, and tested in accordance with BS 7671. An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is an inspection report on an existing installation — it assesses the condition of the installation and identifies any items that are dangerous, potentially dangerous, or that do not comply with the current edition of BS 7671.
What happens if a defect is found after the work is complete?
If any defect in our workmanship is identified within 12 months of practical completion, we will return and rectify it at no cost. This warranty does not cover damage caused by third parties, misuse, or normal wear and tear. As a NICEIC Approved Contractor, our work is also backed by the NICEIC Platinum Promise, which provides an additional safety net if we are unable to resolve a complaint.
Do I need to keep my electrical certificates?
Yes. Keep all electrical certificates in a safe place with your property documents. EICs and EICRs are important records when you come to sell your property, as solicitors and buyers' surveyors routinely ask for them. They are also required evidence for insurance purposes. We recommend storing digital copies alongside the originals. If you lose your certificate, contact us — we retain copies for six years.
When should I next have my installation inspected?
BS 7671 and Electrical Safety First guidelines recommend the following maximum intervals: private rented properties — every 5 years (a legal requirement under the 2020 Regulations); owner-occupied domestic properties — every 10 years or on change of occupancy; commercial premises — every 5 years; industrial premises — every 3 years. Your EICR will specify the recommended interval for your installation based on its condition.
Safety & Compliance
What is Part P of the Building Regulations?
Part P is the section of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) that covers the design and installation of electrical installations in dwellings. It requires certain types of electrical work in homes to be carried out or certified by a competent person and, in many cases, notified to the Local Authority. As a NICEIC Approved Contractor, we are authorised to self-certify Part P notifiable work, which means you do not need to obtain a separate Building Control application for our electrical installations.
What is BS 7671?
BS 7671 is the national standard for electrical installations in the UK, published by the IET and BSI. It is commonly known as the Wiring Regulations. The current edition is the 18th Edition (published 2018, with Amendment 2 published 2022). All our electrical installations are designed and carried out in accordance with BS 7671, and our engineers hold the 18th Edition qualification as a minimum.
What are your obligations as a NICEIC Approved Contractor?
As a NICEIC Approved Contractor, we are subject to regular independent assessment of our technical competence and business practices. We are required to carry out and certify all notifiable electrical work in accordance with BS 7671, to maintain appropriate insurance, to notify NICEIC of notifiable work so it can be registered with the Local Authority, and to resolve any complaints in accordance with the NICEIC complaints procedure. Our Approved Contractor status can be verified on the NICEIC website using our registration number.
How often should I have an Electrical Installation Condition Report?
The recommended frequency depends on the type of property. For private rented residential properties in England, an EICR is a legal requirement every five years under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020. For owner-occupied homes, the recommended interval is every ten years, or whenever you move into a property. For commercial premises, every five years, and for industrial premises, every three years. Your EICR will also specify when the next inspection is due based on the condition of your installation.
Can I do my own electrical work at home?
Some minor electrical work — such as replacing a like-for-like socket, switch, or light fitting — can be carried out by a competent householder under Part P, provided the work does not involve a special location (bathroom, kitchen within 600mm of a sink) and does not create a new circuit. However, most installation work, including new circuits, consumer unit work, and anything in a bathroom or kitchen, must be carried out by a competent person and notified where required. We strongly recommend using a qualified, registered electrician for all electrical work to ensure safety and compliance.
What signs indicate my wiring may need replacing?
Warning signs that your electrical installation may need attention include: circuit breakers or fuses that trip or blow frequently; persistent burning smell from sockets or fittings; discoloured or warm sockets; flickering lights; a consumer unit that uses rewireable fuses rather than modern circuit breakers; wiring with rubber, fabric, or lead sheathing (indicating pre-1970s installation); lack of RCD protection; and sockets without earth terminals (two-pin only). If you observe any of these signs, contact us for an EICR inspection.
